Backyards for Birds and Butterflies: Simple Things You Can Do to Create a Welcoming Habitat
Morris Center for Lowcountry Heritage 10782 S. Jacob Smart Blvd., Ridgeland, SC 29936
Local nature enthusiasts, Lois Lewis and Leslie Natoli will be presenting about local species of birds and butterflies, and sharing tips that all of us can do to encourage these declining populations to thrive. Their presentation will include identification of the most common species of birds and butterflies of the Lowcountry, and suggestions for planting habitats that are sustainable, fun, and easy to grow.
Lois Lewis is a Master Naturalist, serves on the board of the Hilton Head Audubon Society, teaches adult education, and volunteers for the Port Royal Sound Foundation and the Kids in Kayaks Program. Leslie is a retired educator who serves as a volunteer and is on the Advisory Board for The Morris Center for Lowcountry Heritage. She has presented classes on wreath-making and monarch butterflies. In addition, her love of nature has inspired her art and paintings now featured and for sale at the Morris Center. Both Lois and Leslie worked for years together, teaching middle school students in Beaufort County.
