LowCountry Chapter of the American Harp Society (AHS)

The LowCountry Chapter of the American Harp Society is pleased to present AHS Concert Artist Abigail Kent in Recital on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 3:30pm at St. Andrew By-The-Sea United Methodist Church, 20 Pope Avenue, Hilton Head Island, SC. The Lowcountry Harp Ensemble will perform prior to the concert at 3:00pm. This spectacular Island Event is a “First” for Hilton Head and the Lowcountry.  The concert is made possible by the American Harp Society, Inc., and is open to the public without charge. There will be a freewill offering.

Charleston native Abigail Kent is a Presidential Scholar, studying with Principal Harpist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra Emmanuel Ceysson in the Masters of Music program at Mannes School of Music in New York City. She presents solo recitals and masterclasses throughout the US and Canada as winner of the AHS Concert Artist Competition, serving for 2 years. She was the featured soloist for the 2017 World Harp Congress in Hong Kong, a Laureate Finalist at the 2017 Classics Alive management searching LA, and named the February 2018 “New Artist of the Month” for Musical America International Magazine.

Ms. Kent has performed as a Guest Musician with the Charleston Symphony and New World Symphony. She has been Principal Harpist of the Spoleto Festival Orchestra and Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan. She is an avid proponent of new music premiering commissioned works and solos written for her. Her teachers include Judy McCoy, Anastasia Jellison, Jacquelyn Bartlett, Catherine White, Elizabeth Hainen, and Park Stickney. She studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London and graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.

The Lowcountry Chapter of the AHS was formed in 2017 and includes harpists from Charleston to Savannah.
