St. Andrew By-The-Sea United Methodist Church is honored to host renowned scholar, activist, author and artist, the Rev. Dr. Peter M. Wherry, at the church's Hilton Head Campus on Saturday, June 22 at 10:00 a.m. for an engaging discussion on Faith & Race.
What does our faith have to say about race? How do our religious and spiritual practices shape us as we live in a racially diverse society? Join Dr. Wherry as he challenges us on the intersections of faith and race, and the ways faith informs our lives together.
Dr. Wherry's published works include a unique musical CD and devotional in collaboration with his wife, Dr. Wanda Wherry, entitled A Door of Hope: A Devotional with Sermons and Songs of Hope. He also partnered to produce The Forward Together Lectionary as a resource to assist preachers in the task of incorporating social justice into houses of faith. His latest book is Preaching Funerals in the Black Church: Bringing Perspective to Pain. He has performed in national and international touring productions of Broadway shows, as well as recorded vocals with legendary performers. In addition to his appointment as a Sr. Pastor, he has served as a counselor for the VA Department of Corrections, working with violent sex offenders and was appointed to VA State Boards of Juvenile Justice. His work has also taken him to many third world countries. He is an engaging speaker and there will be opportunities for audience interaction.
