Montage Palmetto Bluff is honored to host Michael Smalls, a 7th generation basket-sewer, for a two-hour instructional workshop on the art and history of the sweet grass basket - an iconic treasure of the Lowcountry. Originating within the Gullah culture, sweet grass basket weaving traces its roots back to enslaved West Africans who brought the technique from Sierra Leone to the southeastern United States.
Directions
The River House is located within Palmetto Bluff's Wilson Village. There is no gate fee to enter the community of Palmetto Bluff, and self-parking is complimentary.
