Opening Reception for "Sand Patterns"
Join us Thursday September 6th from 5-8 pm for the Opening Reception of "Sand Patterns"- a show of new work by Christina Hall-Strauss. Christina will be in attendance during the reception from Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Christina was born in Tucson, Arizona, and has lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico since the mid-1970s. Her chosen medium is acrylic on canvas, working with negative space by adding and subtracting shapes while building the surface to create an overall glow.
"The Sand Patterns series began after many visits to Brittany, France. While walking the beaches there I became fascinated with the movements and shadows of the patterns in the sand. I created paintings called The Bretagne Series with these images in mind. Other titles in the Bretagne works are called Tide Pools, Trégastel and Water’s Edge. Out of that series, the Sand Pattern paintings grew into a new way of expressing my love for the American Southwest, where I have lived all my life. I wanted to explore on canvas the movement and changing shapes encountered in those desert landscapes, and especially in the arroyos, the rivers, and the riparian vegetation growing along the banks.”
The show will be available to view at the gallery during the month of September. Gallery hours are Tuesday- Saturday 11-5 or by appointment.
