"For the Perils and Fortunes of the Sea": The Final Voyage of the French Corsair Le Prince
Coastal Discovery Museum 70 Honey Horn Drive, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926
This program at the Coastal Discovery Museum will be presented by James Spirek, the State Underwater Archaeologist for South Carolina. In early 1577, a French corsair, Le Prince, struck the shoals off Santa Elena at present-day Port Royal Sound. But for stumbling on the shoals, Le Prince would have been another of the countless and nameless corsairs that successfully traded and raided the towns and ships along the Spanish Main and West Indies during the sixteenth-century. The presentation will present preliminary results from the on-going archaeological survey to locate the remains of the corsair off Port Royal Sound.
The program is $5 for a virtual viewing and reservations are required by calling 843-689-6767 ext. 223.
