Soul of the South Exhibition Grand Opening

Morris Center for Lowcountry Heritage will open its new exhibit, Soul of the South, on a high note with a celebration. The public is invited to enjoy all the event activities which will take place in the center’s Art Park.
The celebration’s family -friendly festivities include live musical performances, guided tours of the new exhibit, and a craft station where attendees can make a harmonica to take home. Through a drumming performance and an informative talk, Chief Sekhu Gentle, Principle Chief, will demonstrate the importance of the drum to the Yamasee Nation. The drummers from Oyotunji African Village will play and speak about the connection of drums to Yoruba culture. David Skinner will perform some jazz selections and talk about jazz and the saxophone. Blues music and an explanation of the genre will be presented by J. Howard Duff.
The public is welcome to bring blankets and chairs to this free event. In the case of inclement weather, the event will be moved indoors.
