Spend Some Time – At Coligny!
One of my favorite spots to take my son, Gray (18 months), whether summer, fall, winter or spring on Hilton Head Island is Coligny Plaza. Coligny to me is truly “Hilton Head Island’s Downtown” as their catchy marketing slogan says…and between the amazing restaurant selection and kid friendly activities, it’s a wonderful place to spend the afternoon with a child.
When Gray turned 1, we did his ceremonial “first” haircut at The Cutting Room – an old fashioned-style barbershop that has been in business at Coligny since forever. Karolyn has been cutting my husband Joe’s hair for years so we always knew she would be Gray’s “stylist” too! Recently, we took Gray for his haircut and did a little exploring…check out our afternoon!
Before the haircut, we stopped into local & visitor favorite The Frosty Frog for some fun hurricane-type daiquiri cocktails…..we love this bar and restaurant…they recently added on a new room and expanded their menu to include homemade pizzas! Try my favorite, White Russian…..or Joe’s favorite, Jungle Juice! Gallon’s on the Go are available as are non-alcoholic versions too!
For a late-lunch, we decided to stop into Market Street Cafe for an authentic gyro sandwich – another Coligny favorite for over 20 years. Our good friends, Joni & CB own Market Street and everything from their salads, to gyro’s to desserts are amazing….with seating inside or outside on the patio, make sure to put this on your “must eat list” when visiting the Island!
Amazing Gyro sandwich at Market Street Cafe!
Our next stop was Coligny True Value Hardware for a boogie board and swim diapers! Yes, you read that correctly, the Hardware store on Hilton Head Island also carries all of your essential beach supplies. After you find your raft, floatie, nailgun or two-by-four, saunter up to the register and make sure to say hi to the dog at checkout!
We took the short walk across the street to Coligny Beach Park. This family-friendly park boasts a water feature for the kids to play in, along with showers, changing rooms, bathrooms, rocking chairs, adirondack chairs and swings.
After some playtime on the beach, we were thrilled to stumble upon a drum circle! Each month, on the 2ndFriday night, there is a public drum circle where everyone gets together and plays music on the beach! What fun for Gray and the kids! Check out this video of the drum circle – while Gray plays in the sand!
As I said before, Coligny Plaza and Coligny Beach offer amazing amenities for vacationing families – as well as locals, like us. Coligny Plaza also offers daily entertainment, ice cream and Italian ice stores and other kid friendly activities & shops that are easy on the wallet and big on fun. With its prime location right across from the Town of Hilton Head’s Coligny Beach Park & free parking, it’s easy to see why you can spend an afternoon, or a whole day exploring!
Enjoy Coligny Ya’all!
